The story
In an attempt to kick an unhealthy habit, the sailor John Carnage swapped the smoke of his cheroots for smoked sardines. But since John had been an unstoppable chain-smoker, this switch briefly put sardines on the endangered species list along the coast by his summer residence. By the end of summer, however, the local sardines could breathe a sigh of relief. John set sail once more and could now call himself a non-smoker… albeit with an unhealthy overdose of omega-3 fatty acids in his system.
