The story
After narrowly missing the red-dotted jersey in an epic drama, Niels vowed that he would not have his beard trimmed until he regained the jersey. A decision that would prove to complicate his life over time, as his mission was unsuccessful for the next 10 years. The defeats had taken such a toll on him that he isolated himself from the outside world and now lived as a hermit in the mountains. Rumor had it that he had become a strange man, wildly claiming that he was now able to communicate with nature. But the rumors turned out to be true. He was the only rider to ride all three weeks with a tailwind and that was assisted by water-carrying seagulls. So after 10 years, Niels finally regained his red-dotted jersey, embrased his love of nature and regained his normal facial hair.Highlights
