The Story
The scientific name of the common eider, 'Somateria mollissima', loosely translates to 'very soft, wooly body'. The eider in this design took that name literally - and in an attempt to live up to the nickname it had received by humans, he asked a local Faeroese woman to knit him a sweater. His new maritime appearance landed him a job as crewmate on a ship, where he served as the captain's pillow for many years.
